Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word.
Teardrop- Massive Attack.
Love is one of the most misunderstood phrases in the entire English language, having seemingly lost a significant portion of its meaning and significance in the 21st century. Therefore it's with some trepidation that I proceed with the third task of the 30 day challenge - Who was your first love? - not through fear, but through respect for the term itself. Too often I see people professing love on the interwebs and it falling apart months later, mistaking love for infatuation and lust. I have a massive respect for the word itself; it's overplayed and overdone by society but in its purest form its one of the most beautiful - if not the most beautiful - feelings this life has to offer. What is it? It's selfless. Love in its purest form is selfless, kind and most importantly, is eternal. The one thing that people often forget though is that love is fragile and needs to be cultivated with passion, commitment and honesty. Without this, it can often subside. With that said, I move onwards.
My first love?
I can honestly say that I've never been in love until now, which makes me very lucky. I'm not the kind of person who believes in love at first sight (its merely lust folks) but I can honestly say that within the first month of dating my lovely girlfriend Sarah, I was head over heels in love. It took me a few more months to tell her that, but now I'm quite happy to tell the world. Why? She is a beautiful woman who inspires me to be a better man every single day through her grace, class and personality, yet more importantly I see my future with her. We're not the typical couple in that we both have a Christian faith which changes a lot of what society dictates what a relationship should be, but I truly believe that it's made us an incredibly strong couple. Search for love, and you will be incredibly rewarded for I have never felt as complete as I am today.
To finish off, I will combine this post with #4 (post a song depicting your mood) to make up for the fact I neglected to post yesterday. It's a song called Bloom by an amazing band called The Paper Kites; its one of my favorites and after writing this emotion-centered love piece, its only fitting that I finish with a long song. Keep it real folks.
What about you? Who was your first love? Are you still with them? Do you believe in love?
