It has been approximately two and a half months since I gave up facebook, a decision which has been a watershed mark in my own life and the making of this summer. For anyone who hasn't followed The Radical Change long term, read this to get up to speed.
My life has had a pretty huge transformation since the 29th of October, the offiicial date I cut facebook out of my life (for now anyway). For the record, Facebook was not the problem. I was the problem. Facebook was merely the culmination of my addiction to procrastination. It was a negative habit that got way out of hand and I needed to change it. I have 'kicked the habit' and that has given me immense satisfaction as well as a new lease on life.
However, kicking facebook wasn't really the key issue here. Wasting my life was; and to change that required altering a behaviour that had almost become innate. I'd sit at home trying to think of things to make me look interesting, instead of actually being interesting. I would pretend to be someone other than who I was, and I will be the first to say what an absolute terrible existence that is. It's not really living, it's merely being alive..
I have changed though, radically. I've done things I never thought possible a couple of years ago.. 80 km bike ride? Easy. 20km Bush hike? Done. How about playing lasertag in a suit? I might actually be that awesome. My personal favorite? Basking in the sheer beauty of a sunrise atop Mt. Buller.
Most of all though, they are things that I have always wanted to do.
From now on, I will define who I am; not society.
What have you always wanted to do? Is there anything holding you back?

Hello, Jimmy. I was back on facebook after two months but it wasn't the same anymore. I wasn't as obsessed as I was before checking on it every so often. It just keeps me connected but then it't not my life. What you're going through right now, that's how I felt in 2009 that's why I started my blog and eventually started finding things that actually make me happy. I am looking forward to hearing more of your journey. Good luck to us. :)
